Attention
BHS alumni!

We are asking our alumni and current  Bruin supporters for help. There is a lot of work to be done at the school’s current facilities but no money to complete these projects. We, the Bruin Boosters, recently failed in a grant application for money which would’ve been used to replace the fence that surrounds the football field / track. The fence is the original, 40+ years old. The cost for a new fence is $24,000 which has dropped $6,000 in the last five years. The new fence would have kick outs instead of gates, provide a place for the shot put / discus competitors to get through, provide a gate for maintenance access, and even provide a bar for the track kids to stretch on.   We also have other projects that need to be addressed as well. The fence along both foul lines on the baseball field, again the original, need replaced. It comes with a $10,500 price tag. The baseball and soccer fields need new LED scoreboards which carry a combined price tag between $15,000 and $20,000. The softball field needs a new dirt mixture hauled in at $4,500. Also we have the project of providing brick dugouts and press boxes, along with a new home plate area on both baseball and softball diamonds at an estimated cost of $20,000. We would also like to provide tennis with a practice board area, a new ‘welcome to’ area leading to track, football, baseball, cross country, and softball, and down the road we're looking at turf for the football field and the need for a brand new basketball court which has a combined price tag of $500,000 - $600,000.  We have a vision of a Blackford High School memorial with 3 flag poles in between all the outdoor facilities for an American Flag, state of Indiana Flag, and Bruin flag will fly. This includes a flower box around surrounding the flag poles with bricks in a circular area with names of those who donate a certain amount to the projects.      We do not know final costs for that or what it would cost to get names on bricks.  The Bruin Boosters have provided $300,000 to the school and community organizations over the last 3 years. It has not just been athletic teams as we have supported the band and choir, BPA and Science Clubs, drama, student council, and many others. The Bruin Boosters provide $45,000 every 3 years just for uniforms for our teams. We also provide money for game balls and other necessities.    Any donation is appreciated as we ask that you help in anyway possible in helping us support Blackford High School of 2011 and beyond. What is
MainGate?

The MainGate program offers individuals an opportunity to work to earn money for such things as lunch money, book rental fees, trips, letter jackets, practice packages and it has even opened up to parents of junior high students for the Washington, D.C. trip.  We currently have around 50 names already on this list to work this year. We are working four booths which need 14 people to man them. Three booths need three workers, and one boot is a 5-person booth. MainGate booths are only open during Colts games. If you are interested please contact John Simmons at simmons.john@comcast.net or David Thiery at thiery@att.net.   Verizon, Conseco Fieldhouse Verizon The Bruin Boosters began working at Verizon Msuci Center this past fall, working the Jimmy Buffet, Elton John, and Tobey Keith concerts. Pay is $7.25 an hour and we work this either paying your group or putting it in an individual account for your student. Those working Verizon need khaki pants or shorts, athletic shoes (no open toed shoes or flip flops), and a light colored t-shirt or shirt with no logos or print. You would take a water bottle and money for food, $5 – 7 would do. We can send as few as 5 or as many as 20. Keep watching for future concerts.  Work here could consist of anything from helping direct traffic in the parking lot to seating people to selling lawn chairs, working in the VIP area, or other customer service areas. Conseco Fieldhouse We are currently waiting on our non-for-profit status to be approved. Once that happens, we can begin working concerts, other entertainment events, Fever and Pacers games. We have gone through a training session, we have signed a contract to work at Conseco. You have to be 18 to work. We can send anywhere from 5 to 20. If we send a large group, they may split that into 2 or 3 different stands. More information will be available on this outlet once we have the non-for-profit 501 c 3 status. .
Join us at Lucas Oil!
Blackford High School works 2 booths for every Colts games along with several other contracted events. These booths are manned by athletic teams, groups, organizations, band, choir, science club and so on.
Blackford has raised over $300,000 in the last three years for over 75 teams, groups, and organizations. In 2009, Blackford Bruin Boosters were the #1 fundraising group in the country through Centerplate concessions. We raised $120,000 from Centerplate who is the concessionaire for venues all over the country plus they handle the NBA All-Star game, professional events all across the country and beyond, and did the most recent Olympics.
Anyone interested in working Lucas Oil should contact Chris Landis or Angie Harriett.
